Nature-based retention measures on agricultural land: expected effects and limits to implementation

Abstract:

Prvním cílem předložené práce bylo vybrat a představit z oficiálních strategií a dokumentů vydaných příslušnými institucemi 3-5 přírodě blízkých opatření z pohledu jejich efektů a poté provést analýzu jejich skutečného využití ve třech vybraných obcích. Pro splnění tohoto cíle byla provedena analýza oficiálních adaptačních strategií a strategických dokumentů, terénní průzkum a analýza ortofoto snímků území vybraných obcí. Dalším cílem bylo zjistit bariéry a motivace, které zemědělci vnímají v procesu implementace. K získání výsledků byla využita metoda polostrukturovaného rozhovoru se zástupci 15 zemědělských subjektů, které ve vybraných obcích hospodaří. Výsledky rozhovorů odhalily 58 konkrétních bariér a 14 motivací, které zemědělci v procesu implementace přírodě blízkých opatření na zemědělské půdě vnímají. Upozorňují také na komplikovanost implementace, nízkou informovanost zemědělců o efektech přírodě blízkých opatření a jejich nedůvěru v pověřené orgány státní správy. Výsledky mohou sloužit jako podklad pro orgány státní správy k nastavení efektivnějších adaptačních strategií.

Abstract:

The first aim of this thesis was to select and present 3-5 nature-based measures issued by the relevant institutions from the perspective of their effects and then analyze its real usage in three selected villages. To accomplish this target an analysis of relevant adaptation strategies and strategic documents was performed as well as field survey and analysis of photo images of the territory of selected municipalities was done. Another aim was to find out the barriers and motivations perceived by farmers in the implementation process. To obtain the results semi-structured interview method with 15 representatives of agricultural subjects farming in selected municipalities was used. The results had revealed 58 specific barriers and 14 motivations which have been perceived by farmers in the implementation process of nature-based measures on agricultural land. It also refers about complexity of implementation, the low level of farmer's awareness about the effects of nature-based measures and their lack of trust in authorized state government institutions. The results of this thesis can serve as the basis for state government institutions to set up more effective adaptation strategies.
