Narrative of a Fashion Performance

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje formátu módní přehlídky a jejího začlenění mezi performativní umění. Má za cíl definovat přístupy používané světovými designery k prezentaci kolekcí od 90. let 20. století a nacházet souvislosti na české scéně v posledním desetiletí. Jednotlivé přístupy jsou členěny podle způsobů komunikace s divákem a nástrojů používaných k vyprávění příběhu. První přístup se zaměřuje na oděv samotný, tedy je kladen důraz na osobní prezentaci a vytváření narativu pomocí jednotlivých modelů, a okolní prostředí je opomenuto. Druhý přístup naopak pracuje se scénografií a jedinečností prostoru, díky němuž je oděvní kolekce zasazena do nových souvislostí. Zde se setkáváme se dvěma kategoriemi. S možností využití tzv. ready made prostorů nebo přenesením diváka do unikátního prostředí pomocí uměle vytvořené scény. Dále se práce věnuje více performativním nástrojům jako je pohyb modelek a zapojení diváka do narativu.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the format of the fashion show and its inclusion among the performing arts. It aims to define the approaches used by internaonal designers to present their collecons since the 1990s and to find connecons to the Czech scene in the last decade. The individual approaches are divided according to the ways of communicaon with the viewer and the tools used to tell the story. The first approach focuses on the garment itself, emphasizing personal presentaon and the creaon of a narrave through individual models, neglecng the surrounding environment. The second approach, on the other hand, works with the set design and the uniqueness of the space, through which the clothing collecon is placed in a new context. Here we encounter two categories. The possibility of using so-called readymade spaces or transporng the viewer into a unique environment through an arficially created scene. The work also focuses on more performave tools such as the movement of the models and involvement of the viewer in the narrave.
