The Evolution of the political system of the Czech Republic after 1989 - under the influence of opposition agreement

Abstract:

Předmětem této diplomové práce je popis a analýza utváření a následného vývoje politického systému České republiky po listopadových událostech 1989. V sice poměrně krátkém, ale zásadním vývoji politického systému v období Federace dochází zejména k obnově stranického systému a utváření výrazných osobností české politiky. Jejich vzájemné vztahy v kontextu ekonomických reforem budou v následujících letech velmi výrazně ovlivňovat další směřování politického systému republiky. Po osamostatnění České republiky dochází k utváření prvních koaličních vlád a k prvním politickým krizím. Ty mají pak za následek vznik takzvané opoziční smlouvy, která od roku 1998 do roku 2002 velmi výrazně ovlivňuje celý politický systém České republiky. V textu diplomové práce se snažím formulovat odpovědi na otázky, co vlastně byla opoziční smlouva a jaké důvody vedly ke zvolení tohoto způsobu řešení při sestavování vlády po parlamentních volbách 1998.

Abstract:

The subject of this thesis is description and analysis of the establishment and the following development of the Czech political system after the events in November 1989. During a relatively short, but crucial development of the political system in the times of the Federation it has come to a renovation of the party system and rise of eminent figures of the Czech political scene. Their mutual relations in the context of the economic reforms would distinctively influence the following orientation of the Czech political system in the next several years. After the Czech Republic had become independent, first coalitional governments and first political crises appeared. The latter resulted in signing of the so-called opposition party, which had a great impact on the political system of the Czech Republic in 1998-2002. In my thesis I try to formulate answers to the questions, what exactly the opposition party was and which reasons led to this kind of decision during the government formation after the Parliament elections in 1998.
