Czech Names of the Planets

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská diplomová práce se zabývá českými názvy planet. Zaměřuje se zejména na názvy staročeské, okrajově analyzuje také názvy internacionální. První část práce podává především výklad motivace staročeských názvů planet a mapuje výskyt jednotlivých názvů planet v textových materiálech od 14. století do století 20. Druhá část práce analyzuje systém názvů planet jako celek: hlavní důraz je kladen na přechod od staročeského systému k systému internacionálnímu. Práce navíc řeší problematiku kosmonym a upozorňuje na nedostatečnou definici tohoto termínu v současné lingvistice.

Abstract:

This bachelor‘s thesis deals with the Czech names of the planets. It compares the system of expressions in the Old and Modern Czech with main focus on the Old Czech expressions. First part of this thesis explains the motivation of the Old Czech names of the planets and summarizes the occurence of these names in Czech publications since the 14th century. Second part of this thesis analyzes the system of these names with the main accent on the switchover from the Old Czech names to the internacional names. This thesis also deals with the term "cosmonymy" and highlights the insufficient definition of this term in Czech linguistics.
