Analysis of material alternatives of cajon soundboards

Abstract:

Tato práce je zaměřena na výběr komerčně dostupných materiálů vhodných k využití na rezonanční desky cajonu. Teoretická část se nejprve zabývá obecně hudebními nástroji, následně se soustředí na bicí nástroje a největší pozornost je dána hudebnímu nástroji cajonu. Praktická část stanovuje fyzikální a mechanické vlastnosti (hustotu, frekvenci, dynamické moduly pružnosti, akustickou konstantu, akustickou impedanci, účinnost akustické konverze, rychlost šíření zvuku) vybraných materiálů nejprve na zkušebních vzorcích materiálů a deskách nepřipevněných na nástroji, následně hodnotí jejich zvukový projev při osazení na nástroj. Ke stanovení parametrů byla provedena frekvenčně rezonanční analýza. Výsledky poukazují na rozdíly mezi vybranými materiály, popsány byly závislosti mezi sledovanými parametry, který lze využít pro výběr materiálu pro konstrukci nástroje.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the selection of commercially available materials suitable for use on cajon soundboards. The theoretical part first deals with musical instruments in general, then focuses on percussion instruments and the greatest attention is given to the musical instrument cajon. The practical part determines the physical and mechanical properties (density, frequency, dynamic modulus of elasticity, acoustic constant, acoustic impedance, acoustic conversion efficiency, sound propagation speed) of the selected materials first on test samples and boards not attached to the instrument, then evaluates their sound performance when mounted on the instrument. A frequency resonance analysis was performed to determine the parameters. The results show the differences between the selected materials, the dependencies between the observed parameters were described, which can be used to select the material for the construction of the instrument.
