Life and Work of Gustav Schorsch and Theatre in Terezín

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá osobností mladého divadelníka Gustava Schorsche (1918 - 1945). Před druhou světovou válkou Schorsch studoval na dramatické Konzervatoři a Filosofické fakultě a kromě jiného spolupracoval s Národním divadlem a založil Divadélko pro 99. Kvůli židovskému původu byl v roce 1942 deportován do koncentračního tábora v Terezíně, kde vytvořil své nejvýznamnější inscenace: Loutky, napsané v Terezíně Petrem Kienem, a Gogolovu Ženitbu, která je považována za jednu z nejvýznamnějších terezínských inscenací. Práce je rozdělena do tří hlavních částí. První popisuje Schorschovu činnost před válkou, druhá uvádí do problematiky kulturního života terezínských vězňů a třetí kapitola se zabývá Schorschovou zdejší divadelní prací. Studie se snaží obsáhnout všechny Schorschovy divadelní aktivity a nastínit základní rysy jeho výjimečné osobnosti.

Abstract:

My work is interested in the personality of Gustav Schorsch (1918 - 1945). Before the World War II this man studied Conservatory of drama and philosophy at University in Prague. He was known for artistic and intellectual abilities and extensive knowledge of theatre, literature and culture. Because of his Jewish origin, he was jailed into the concentration camp in Terezín during the war and there he created his most famous and significant theatre pieces. He directed two pieces: Loutky (The Puppets), wrote by Petr Kien, and Ženitba (The Marriage) of Gogol. The staging of The Marriage is considered to be the best stage of drama staging in Terezín. My work is divided into several parts. The first part describes activities of Schorsch before the war, second part is about the theatre in Terezín in general and the third part is about work of Schorsch in Terezín.
