The Translation of Realia in the Work of Stefan Zweig - As Exemplified by The World of Yesterday

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the topic of translation of realia in a selected chapter of The World of Yesterday by Stefan Zweig. The thesis consists of two parts, the theoretical and the practical one. The theoretical part deals with translation issues, the main translation methods, their phases and types. The thesis also provides characteristics of the fiction literary style and the issue of translation. Moreover, the theoretical part introduces the personality of Stefan Zweig and the period that he lived in. Furthermore, it follows on to introduce his work namely his novel World of Yesterday. The practical part describes the method used for translation and also Stephan Zweig's literary style. The core of the practical part is the translation of the realia themselves that are divided into categories based on the set criteria.

Abstract:

Předkládaná bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na problematiku překladu reálií ve vybrané kapitole díla Svět včerejška autora Stefana Zweiga. Práce se skládá ze dvou částí, a to z teoretické a praktické. Teoretická část pojednává o tematice překladu děl, o hlavních metodách překladu, jeho jednotlivých fázích a druzích. Dále je věnována pozornost charakteristice beletristického stylu a problematice překladu samotných reálií. V teoretické části je také představena osobnost Stefana Zweiga a doba, ve které žil. Následně je představeno samotné dílo, a to román Svět včerejška. V praktické části je popsána metoda, která byla při překladu zvolena. Následně je popsán styl autora Stefana Zweiga. V centru zájmu stojí překlad samotných reálií, které jsou rozčleněny do jednotlivých kategorií podle stanovených kritérií.
