U.S.-Russia relations in the "era" of V.V.Putin and G.W.Bush administrations

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na problematiku americko-ruských vztahů v éře V.V. Putina a G. W. Bushe. Základní hypotézou je,že bilaterální vztahy mezi Ruskem a USA se od začátku nového tisíciletí stále zlepšují. Ačkoliv existuje společná snaha obou zemí o kooperaci, která ne vždy vede ke kladným výsledkům, budou oba státy usilovat o vzájemnou konvergenci i nadále. Mezi nejvýznamnější témata v bilaterálních vztazích ve zkoumaném období patřila, jak ekonomická problematika, tak blízkovýchodní tématika, rozšiřování NATO, změny po 11. září, terorismus, odzbrojování, protiraketová obrana nebo The Strategic Framework Declaration. První polovina práce se, mimo stanovení plánu výzkumu, zaměřuje právě na tyto důležitá témata, jež měly vliv na americko-ruské vztahy. Ve druhé polovině diplomové práce je proveden pokus pomocí SWOT analýzy identifikovat výchozí strategickou pozici americko-ruských vztahů pro další roky. Výsledkem této práce je potvrzení této hypotézy, kdy další snahy o vzájemnou kooperaci jsou stanoveny jako priority obou zemí, proto snaha o konvergenci je nevyhnutelná, ale rychlé sblížení ve sporných otázkách není možné.

Abstract:

This diploma work is focused on a question of Russia-United States relations in the period of V.V. Putin´s and G.W. Bush´s administrations. The main hypothesis states, that the bilateral relations between Russia and United States still became better. In spite of existing common tendency of both countries to cooperation, which doesn´t always lead in positive results, the both states will make an effort to bilateral convergence in the future. The Economical problems, the middle East theme, the expansion of NATO, changes after 11th September, the terrorism, the disarmament, the anti- ballistic defense or The Strategic Framework Declaration, these are the most significant themes witch influenced Russia-United states relations. The first part of my work, except the research plan statement, is concentrated on these important themes, which had an impact on bilateral relations of these two countries. The second part of my diploma work is composed of SWOT analysis; it is conducted in order to identify the initial strategic position of Russia -United States relations for the next years. The analysis confirmed my hypothesis. The efforts leading to the bilateral cooperation are declared as a priority for both countries, the convergence is therefore unavoidable. However the prompt harmonization in controversial issues cannot be expected.
