Czech-German literary relations in the 20th century

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce chce poskytnout bližší pohled na vztah mezi českou a německou literaturou, zejména s ohledem na období 20. století. Diplomová práce je rozdělena do tří částí, přičemž se nejprve věnuje bližšímu vysvětlení základních pojmů souvisejících s problematikou české a německé literatury, společné historie a kultury. Prvním důležitým bodem v práci je přehled vývoje vztahů v česko-německém prostoru, ve kterém nechybí důležité historické mezníky - období před 1. světovou válkou, 1. republika, 2. světová válka, okupace a pozdější vývoj česko-německých vztahů. Ve druhé části práce přináší pohled na významné česko-německé spisovatele a jejich díla odrážející a ovlivňující společnou historii a vzájemné vztahy. Z těch nejznámějších jsou jmenováni například Franz Kafka, Max Brod, Rainer Maria Rilke, Gustav Meyrink či Lenka Reinerová. V práci nechybí ani zmínka o tzv. kulturních výměnách mezi oběma zeměmi, k nimž patří překlady literatury, výměnné programy a nejrůznější kulturní akce. Dochází zde také k hodnocení vzájemných vztahů mezi Českou republikou a Německem včetně jejich odrazu v literárních dílech. V závěrečné části je provedena analýza pojetí česko-německé literatury ve vybraných čítankách.

Abstract:

This thesis aims to provide a closer look at the relationship between Czech and German literature, especially with regard to the period of the 20th century. The diploma thesis is divided into three parts, while first it is devoted to a closer explanation of the basic terms related to the issue of Czech and German literature, common history and culture. The first important point in the thesis is an overview of the development of relations in the Czech-German area, which includes important historical milestones - the period before the First World War, the First Republic, the Second World War, the occupation and the later development of Czech-German relations. In the second part of the work, it provides a view of important Czech German writers and their works reflecting and influencing common history and mutual relations. Among the most famous, for example, Franz Kafka, Max Brod, Rainer Maria Rilke, Gustav Meyrink and Lenka Reinerová are named. The thesis also mentions the so-called cultural exchanges between the two countries, which include translations of literature, exchange programs and various cultural events. There is also an evaluation of mutual relations between the Czech Republic and Germany, including their reflection in literary works. In the final part, the concept of Czech-German literature in selected reading books is analyzed.
