Magnetically interesting manganese and iron complexes with pyridine-based macrocyclic ligands

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na syntézu strukturně nového 12členného tetraazamakrocyklického ligandu s 2-methylpyridinovým ramenem (L1), dále na syntézu obdobného 14členného makrocyklického ligandu s 2-methylpyridinovým ramenem (L2), a na přípravu jejich komplexů nejen s manganem a železem, ale také s niklem a kobaltem v oxidačním stavu +II, které by mohly mít zajímavé magnetické vlastnosti. L1 byl připraven několikastupňovou syntézou využívající tosylové chránící skupiny, v případě ligandu L2 byly použity dvě reakční cesty první dříve popsaná cesta s Schiffovou bází jako meziproduktem a druhá nová cesta využívající tosylové chránící skupiny (obdoba přípravy L1). Oba ligandy byly detailně charakterizovány pomocí 1H, 13C a 2D NMR spektroskopie a hmotnostní spektrometrie. Následně byly připraveny manganaté a železnaté komplexy s oběma ligandy L1 a L2, navíc byla tato část práce rozšířena o syntézu jejich nikelnatých a kobaltnatých komplexů. Komplexy pak byly charakterizovány pomocí hmotnostní spektrometrie a elementární analýzy a u nikelnatého komplexu s L1 byla provedena RTG analýza, která zjistila přítomnost koordinačního čísla 6, namísto očekávaného čísla 5, kdy se na centrální atom, kromě pětivazného ligandu L1, koordinovala i jedna molekula methanolu.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is focused on the synthesis of structurally new 12membered tetraazamacrocyclic ligand with one 2-methylpyridin pendant arm (L1) as well as the resynthesis of an analogous 14membered macrocycle with 2-methylpyridine pendant arm (L2) and on the preparation not only of their Mn(II) and Fe(II) complexes but also their Ni(II) and Co(II) complexes, which should show interesting magnetic properties. L1 was prepared by a multi-step procedure using tosylate protecting-groups. Two synthetic strategies were employed in the case of L2 the first one with Schiff base as an intermediate and the second one using tosylate protecting-groups (analogy of the synthesis of L1). Both ligands were thoughtfully characterized by 1H, 13C and 2D NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Then Mn(II) and Fe(II) complexes with both ligands L1 and L2 were prepared and this part of thesis was extended to the synthesis of Ni(II) and Co(II) complexes of both ligands. All the complexes were characterized by mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. X-ray analysis was performed on Ni(II) complex of L1, which revealed the coordination number of 6 instead of the expected coordination number of 5 five nitrogen donor atoms of the pentadentate ligand L1 together with one molecule of methanole were coordinated to the central atom.
