Adventure Therapy and Addiction Treatment in Therapeutic Communities: Control Group

Abstract:

Diplomová práce vznikla na základě spolupráce v projektu Studentské grantové soutěže "Terapie dobrodružstvím jako prostředek resocializace drogově závislých." Práce je zaměřena na terapeutické komunity a srovnává dvě skupiny, z nichž jedna skupina klientů terapeutických komunit programy terapie dobrodružstvím podstupuje a druhá kontrolní skupina, tyto programy neabsolvuje. Zkoumala jsem zda dochází u klientů TK ke změnám v osobnostních charakteristikách a míře stresu v závislosti na absolvování programů terapie dobrodružstvím, ve srovnání s kontrolní skupinou nepodstupující terapie dobrodružstvím. Mezi zkoumané osobnostní charakteristiky řadím sebehodnocení, sebepojetí, vnímaní vlastní účinnosti = self-efficacy a zaměřuji se také na míru odolnosti vůči stresu. Cílem práce je zjistit, k jakým statisticky významným změnám dochází v daných osobnostních charakteristikách a míře stresu u klientů výzkumu nepodstupujících programy terapie dobrodružstvím. A dále srovnání výsledků výzkumu obou skupin v souvislosti s absolvováním programů terapie dobrodružstvím ve smyslu sebehodnocení, sebepojetí, vnímání vlastní účinnosti = self-efficacy a v míře odolnosti vůči stresu. Výsledkem se potvrdilo, že terapie dobrodružstvím má pozitivní vliv na změny ve zkoumaných osobnostních charakteristikách klientů a na odolnost vůči stresu u klientů první skupiny oproti kontrolní skupině, která programy terapie dobrodružstvím neabsolvovala a kde nedochází ke statisticky významným změnám ve výše uvedených osobnostních charakteristikách ani míře odolnosti vůči stresu.

Abstract:

The thesis is based on the cooperation in the project SGS "Adventure Therapy as a Means of Resocialization of Drug Addicts". The thesis focuses on therapeutic communities comparing two groups within these communities. One group undergoes the adventure therapy programme and the second test group does not participate in this programme. I researched if changes in the personality characteristics and stress resistance with the clients of the therapeutic group are related to participating in adventure therapy programmes in comparison with the test group that does not undergo the adventure therapy. I consider these personality characteristics: self-evaluation, self-concept, self-efficacy, and the rate of stress resistance. The thesis aims at finding out what particular statistically relevant changes in personality characteristics and in the rate of stress resistance appear with the clients that do not participate in adventure therapy programmes. Furthermore, the thesis deals with research results comparing both the groups with regard to participation in the adventure therapy programme relating to self-evaluation, self-concept, self-efficacy and the rate of stress resistance. The research confirms that the adventure therapy has a positive effect on changes in focused personality characteristics as well as on stress resistance with the clients of the first group. In contrast, the test group, which does not participate in the adventure therapy, does not prove any statistically relevant changes either in their personal characteristics or in the rate of stress resistance.
