The tactic of infantry combat and form of infantry units in armies of protestant countries in first half of 17th century

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce "Taktika pěchotního boje a podoba pěších jednotek v armádách protestantských států v první polovině 17. století" se popisuje organizaci pěchoty od počátků 17. století až do konce třicetileté války. Hlavním cílem je přiblížení vojenských reforem zaváděných představiteli protestantských států Mořicem Oranžským a Gustavem II. Adolfem. Práce vychází především z dochovaných dobových vojenských příruček ( Henryho Hexhama a Jamese Turnera a jiných), či z pamětí účastníků bitev Francise Verea a Roberta Monroa. Práce ukazuje souvislost mezi organizací a v boji používanými taktickými formami, které jsou blíže představeny na příkladu bitev u Nieuwportu a Breitenfeldu. Práce tak přibližuje téma, které není v historiografii často uváděno.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis "The tactic of infantry combat and form of infantry units in armies of protestant countries in first half of 17th century" describes the organization of Infantry at the beginning of the 17th century until the end of the Thirty Years War. The main objective is to explain military reforms introduced by representatives of protestant states: Maurice Orange and Gustavus II. Adolf. Work is mainly based on contemporary military manuals (Henry Hexham and James Turner etc. ), or the memories of participants battles ( Francis Vere and Robert Monro). Work shows a link between the organization and tactical forms used in combat, which are presented on the examples of the battles of Nieuwport and Breitenfeld. Work explain a topic that is not often reported in historiography.
