Detection of cereal infestation with leaf disease using thermal imaging, fluorescence imaging and spectral reflectance

Abstract:

V teoretické části práce jsou shrnuty základní poznatky o houbových listových chorobách obilnin, jejich škodlivosti a o technologiích precizního zemědělství, zejména pak s důrazem na využití v ochraně rostlin. Praktická část práce se zabývá detekcí napadení obilnin houbovými listovými chorobami pomocí neinvazivních optických metod. Výzkum byl proveden na ozimé pšenici pomocí metod založených na spektrální odrazivosti, infračerveném termálním zobrazování, zobrazovací fluorescenci chlorofylu a modro-zelené zobrazovací fluorescenci. Testovanými chorobami byly padlí travní na pšenici (Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici), rez plevová na pšenici (Puccinia striiformis) a rez pšeničná (Puccinia recondita f.sp. tritici). V případě spektrální odrazivosti bylo u všech chorob nejlepších výsledků dosaženo pro index ANMB650-725 a ZM. Celkově bylo nejlepších výsledků za všechny metody dosaženo při detekci napadení rzí pšeničnou. Velmi dobrým indikátorem napadení chorobami je infračervené termální zobrazování, přičemž vyšší úroveň napadení znamená zvýšení teploty listu a menší diferenci teploty listu a teploty vzduchu. Spolehlivost detekce pomocí zobrazovací fluorescence chlorofylu se liší mezi chorobami, přičemž nejlepších výsledků bylo obecně dosahováno s parametry aktuální kvantový výtěžek PSII a koeficient nefotochemického zhášení. Do budoucna nejperspektivnější metodou se jeví metoda zobrazovací modro-zelené fluorescence, u které bylo dosaženo velmi dobrých výsledků odhadu napadení i kontrastu mezi napadenou a zdravou částí listu.

Abstract:

In the theoretical part of this thesis there is summarized the basic knowledge about the fungal leaf diseases of cereals, their harmfulness and technologies of precision agriculture. The practical part deals with the detection of cereal infestation with fungal leaf diseases using noninvasive optical methods. The research was conducted on winter wheat using methods based on spectral reflectance, infrared thermal imaging, chlorophyll fluorescence imaging, and blue-green fluorescence imaging. The tested diseases were powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici), wheat stripe rust (Puccinia striiformis), and wheat leaf rust (Puccinia recondita f.sp. tritici).). In the case of spectral reflectance, the best results were obtained for spectral indices ANMB650-725 and ZM generally. Overall, the best results for all methods were achieved in the detection of wheat leaf rust. A very good indicator of disease infestation was infrared thermal imaging, with a higher level of infection implying an increase in leaf temperature and a lower difference between leaf and air temperature. Reliability of detection by chlorophyll fluorescence imaging differs between individual diseases, with the best results being generally achieved for actual quantum yield PSII and the non-photochemical quenching. The most promising method for the future is the blue-green fluorescence imaging, which achieved very good results for both, the estimation of infection level and contrast between the infected and the healthy part of the leaf.
