Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá výslovností angličtiny u českých mluvčích a vlivem dlouhodobého sledování televizních seriálů v angličtině na jejich výslovnost. Je rozdělena do dvou částí – teoretická část popisuje různé faktory ovlivňující akvizici správné výslovnosti, krátce shrnuje pedagogické metody a přístupy, představuje podobné výzkumy, které v tomto oboru proběhly, a srovnává anglický a český fonetický systém. Praktická část představuje respondenty výzkumu a rozděluje je do dvou skupin – jedna z nich se účastnila každotýdenních hodin anglické fonologie, druhá nikoliv. Všichni pak byli požádáni, aby sledovali televizní seriál po dobu šesti týdnů, a po každém týdnu byly pořízeny nahrávky jejich mluvy, které byly následně analyzovány. Pokroky respondentů byly zaznamenávány. Navíc během první a poslední schůzky odpovídali respondenti na otázky z dotazníku ohledně svého dosaženého pokroku ve výslovnosti, ty pak byly opět srovnány a vyhodnoceny. Výsledky ukazují, že skupina, která navštěvovala lekce fonologie, vykazuje mírné zlepšení ve výslovnosti, zatímco výslovnost druhé skupiny zůstala při starém. Zdá se, že motivační faktor výsledky ovlivnil, zatímco věk respondentů nikoliv.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the pronunciation of English by young speakers of Czech. It is divided into two sections – the theoretical section introduces the different factors influencing the acquisition of correct pronunciation, a brief overview of teaching methods and approaches, similar research conducted in this field, and the comparison of English and Czech phonemic systems. The research section presents the respondents as they are divided into two groups – one that has attended lessons in English phonology and one that has not. They were asked to watch a TV series for the duration of six weeks, and after each week a recording was made; these are duly analysed and thoroughly discussed. The respondents’ progress in pronunciation has been recorded. Moreover, during the first and the last sessions, they answered questions in short questionnaire; these two have been compared and discussed. The results showed slight amelioration of pronunciation in the group that attended lessons in phonology, whereas the other group kept their standard without any significant improvement. The factor of motivation was proved to have influenced the result, the factor of age has not.
