Musical poetry by the Brno Poet Greta Bauer-Schwind

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the musical aspect of the poems of Greta Bauer-Schwind. In the theoretical part, intermediality and musicality in poetry are defined. The biography of the poet is briefly discussed, and her literary work is presented with a focus on her lyrical work. In the practical part, musicality and intermediality are examined by analysing selected poems. The poetry collections Echogesänge and Gott schuf die Welt aus Liebe were chosen for analysis. The investigation shows that intermediality in the sense of references between music and the art of words is an essential characteristic of Greta Bauer-Schwind's texts and that it is in evidence on all levels. Formally, it is formative for the rhythm, the structure of the poems, verse composition and onomatopoeic key of the poems. However, it also influences the content at the level of motifs, symbols, and entire units of content (for example, in the poems she dedicated to individual composers or operas). Musicality is thus a typical feature of her work. Furthermore, the analysis clearly showed that poems are also intended to be read aloud and often contain nature, biblical motifs, and personified metaphors, and thus refer to the author's religious convictions (polytheistic immanence).

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá hudebním aspektem v básních Grety Bauer-Schwind. V teoretické části je definována intermedialita a hudebnost v poezii. Dále je stručně pojednáno o životě básnířky a představeno její literární dílo se zaměřením na lyrickou tvorbu. V praktické části jsou hudebnost a intermedialita zkoumány na základě rozboru vybraných básní. Pro analýzu byly vybrány básnické sbírky Echogesänge a Gott schuf die Welt aus Liebe. Zkoumání ukazuje, že intermedialita ve smyslu odkazů mezi hudbou a slovesným uměním je podstatným rysem textů Grety Bauer-Schwind a že působí na všech úrovních. Po formální stránce je formativní pro rytmus, strukturu bás-ní, veršovou skladbu a onomatopoický tón básní, ale ovlivňuje i obsah na úrovni motivů, symbolů a celých obsahových celků (například v básních, které věnovala jednotlivým skladatelům nebo operám). Muzikálnost je tedy typickým rysem její tvorby. Analýza navíc jasně ukázala, že básně jsou určeny i k hlasitému čtení a často obsahují přírodní a biblické motivy i personifikované metafory, a odkazují tak k autorčinu náboženskému přesvědčení (polyteistická imanence).
