Racial theories of Lothropp Stoddard and Madison Grant in early 20th century

Abstract:

This thesis aims to explore and compare the works of Lothrop Stoddard and Madison Grant, who were popular authors and nativists in early 20th century. The focus is on their works on topics of race and immigration, to which they devoted several works like The Rising Tide of Color, The Passing of the Great Race or The Conquest of a Continent. The purpose of this paper is to analyze differences in their concepts of race and create a definition based on their perceptions. The aim here is to find a pattern that could be used to create a solid description of what Stoddard and Madison see as a "race".

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá tématem imigrace a lidské rasy v dílech historiků a vědců z první poloviny 20. století Lothropa Stodarda a Madisona Granta. Práce si klade za cíl analyzovat a vymezit rozdíly jejich pojetí termínu rasy a na jeho základě vytvořit definovatelný koncept rasy.
