"Tretet dada bei!" Parallels between De bankroet jazz by Paul van Ostaijen and Dadaist works

Abstract:

Ve své bakalářské diplomové práci se věnuji filmovému scénáři De bankroet jazz, který je dílem vlámského básníka Paula van Ostaijena (1896-1928). Ústředním tématem scénáře je masivní rozmach jazzu, který se stane modlou nově vzniklé "evropské dadarepubliky" a způsobí její bankrot. V první části své práce se věnuji okolnostem vzniku tohoto díla, jeho ději a struktuře. Dále se věnuji vzniku a rozvoji dadaismu a jeho charakteristice, přičemž zaměřuji svou pozornost zejména na berlínský dadaismus. V druhé části své práce zkoumám podobnosti a rozdíly mezi scénářem a pěti díly spadajícími právě do prostředí berlínského dadaismu.

Abstract:

My bachelor thesis deals with the screenplay De bankroet jazz written by the Flemish poet Paul Van Ostaijen (1896-1928). The central theme of the screenplay is a huge expansion of jazz which becomes an idol for the „European dadarepublic“ and causes its bankruptcy. The first part is dedicated to the circumstances of the origins of this piece and to its plot and structure. This thesis also looks at the inception and expansion of dadaism and its characteristic. It focuses especially on Dada Berlin. The second part examines the parallels and differences between this screenplay and five works of Dada Berlin.
