Abstract:

This bachelor thesis analyses how journalists of broadsheets and tabloids use language to report on the film industry. The aim of this work is to find out how these two newspapers differ in terms of language, style, interaction with the reader and communication strategies when reporting the Film section. To achieve this, a corpus of 10 online articles from The Sun and The Guardian from this section, 5 from each newspaper, were analysed on the basis of Fairclough's three-dimensional model of critical discourse analysis and later compared. The results showed that the tabloids use a more sensational, celebrity-focused style of reporting. Results also revealed that tabloid articles interact more with the reader by using a lot of questions. Furthermore, from the analysis it is evident that both of the newspapers have a different readership and therefore the language and style vary. In addition, the social practice analysis of the articles revealed how the articles provide insights into the influence of celebrity culture, gender stereotypes, cultural heritage and traditions, representation and diversity, and cultural beliefs and values.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce analyzuje jazyk, který novináři ze seriózního a bulvárního tisku používají ve článcích o filmovém průmyslu. Cílem práce je zjistit, jak se tyto dva druhy tisku liší z hlediska jazykového, z hlediska stylu, interakce se čtenářem a jaké použivají komunikační strategie ve článcích z rubriky Film. Abychom dosáhli těchto cílů, byl sestaven korpus 10 online článků z této rubriky, z deníků The Sun a The Guardian. Tento korpus je analyzován na základě Faircloughova trojrozměrného modelu kritické diskurzivní analýzy. Výsledky ukázaly, že bulvární deníky jsou zaměřeny hlavně na celebrity. Dále ukázaly, že bulvární články navazují větší kontakt se čtenáři, a to především pomocí velkého množství otázek. Z analýzy je dále patrné, že oba deníky mají odlišné čtenáře, a proto se liší i jejich jazyk a styl. Analýza navíc odhalila, jak články poskytují pohled na celebrity, gendrové normy a stereotypy, etické otázky, kulturní tradice či kulturní hodnoty.
