Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá charakterizaci a diskusi dvou klíčových ženských postav, Yennefer a Triss, z franšízy Zaklínač na subredditu r/witcher. Analýzou 100 nejpopulárnějších příspěvků, rovnoměrně rozdělenými mezi obě postavy, spolu s komentáři, si studie klade za cíl odhalit, jak je fanoušci vnímají, porovnat pozitivitu nebo negativitu spojenou s každou postavou, jejich inspiraci pro fanouškovské výtvory, důvody pro jejich náruživé srovnávání. a jazyk používaný v diskuzích. Na základě Culpeperova (2001) rámce pro analýzu postav výzkum využívá kognitivně stylistický přístup k charakterizaci, aby porozuměl, jak jazyk utváří tato vnímání, a poskytuje náhled do složitého procesu tvorby a interpretace postav v rámci online fanouškovských komunit. Práce odhalila, že subreddit představuje nuancované a polarizované vnímání postav Yennefer a Triss z franšízy Zaklínač. Yennefer je charakterizována svou emocionální hloubkou a složitými vztahy, zatímco Triss generuje více fanouškovského obsahu a je vnímaná jako sladká, ale nedokonalá, s významným zaměřením na její vzhled. Navzdory výraznější narativní roli Yennefer má Triss vyšší přímou angažovanost u příspěvků, což ukazuje různé preference fanoušků. Analýza dále odhalila sofistikované použití jazyka mezi Redditory, s převahou adjektiv a komparativních struktur při popisu postav. Tento výzkum přispívá k širší diskuzi o fanouškovských studiích, online komunikaci a genderové reprezentaci v médiích, zdůrazňující komplexnost fanouškovského zapojení, které přesahuje pouhou konzumaci obsahu a zahrnuje osobní identifikaci, debatu a kreativní vyjádření. Konečně, studie poskytuje cenné poznatky o metodách a přístupech vhodných pro zkoumání online fanouškovských kultur.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis investigates the characterisation and discussion of two pivotal female characters, Yennefer and Triss, from The Witcher franchise within the subreddit r/witcher. Through an examination of the top 100 most upvoted posts, equally divided between the two characters, along with comments, the study aims to uncover fan perceptions, comparing the positivity or negativity associated with each character, their inspiration for fan creations, reasons for passionate comparisons and the language used in discussions. Drawing on Culpeper's (2001) framework for character analysis, the research employs a cognitive stylistic approach to characterisation to understand how language shapes these perceptions, offering insights into the intricate process of character creation and interpretation within online fan communities. The study reveals that the subreddit showcases a nuanced and polarised perception of the characters Yennefer and Triss from The Witcher franchise. Yennefer is characterised by her emotional depth and complex relationships, while Triss generates more fan content and is seen as sweet but flawed, with a significant focus on her appearance. Despite Yennefer's more prominent narrative role, Triss garners higher direct engagement, indicating varied fan preferences. The analysis further uncovers a sophisticated use of language among Redditors, with a predominance of adjectives and comparative structures in describing the characters. This research contributes to the broader discourse on fan studies, online communication, and gender representation in media, highlighting the complexity of fan engagement, extending beyond mere consumption to encompass personal identification, debate, and creative expression. The study also contributes valuable insights into the methods and approaches suitable for investigating online fan cultures.
