Price effects of the euro introduction in Croatia

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá dopady zavedení eura na cenovou hladinu a ekonomickou stabilitu v Chorvatsku, které se stalo členem eurozóny 1. ledna 2023. Analyzuje inflační trendy v Chorvatsku před a po přijetí eura a srovnává je s vybranými zeměmi bývalé Jugoslávie a nedávnými novými členy eurozóny. Studie se také zabývá rolí energetické krize a vysoké inflace, které provázely zavedení eura. Dále diskutuje iniciativy a strategie ke zmírnění neopodstatněného zvyšování cen během přechodu na euro. Zjištění posilují pochopení vlivu eura na chorvatskou ekonomiku a nabízejí náhledy pro další země zvažující přijetí eura.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis investigates the impact of adopting the euro on price levels and economic stability in Croatia, which joined the eurozone on January 1, 2023. It analyzes inflation trends in Croatia before and after adopting the euro, comparing them with selected former Yugoslavian countries and recent eurozone entrants. The study also addresses the role of the energy crisis and high inflation that accompanied the introduction of the euro. Furthermore, it discusses initiatives and strategies to mitigate unjustified price hikes during the transition to the euro. The findings enhance understanding of the euro's effects on Croatia's economy and offer insights for other countries considering the adoption of the euro.
