Processing of wideband radar signals with a focus on the reliability of object detection

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o problematice signálového zpracování v radarových systémech využívající širokopásmové pulsní signály. Představeny jsou principy pulsního primárního radaru, který slouží k porovnání s navrhovaným typem širokopásmového OFDM radaru. Práce též obsahuje teoretický rozbor metod určení směru příchodu signálu s využitím spektrálního rozkladu a principu digitálního beamformingu, který je využíván k zpřesnění odhadu polohy cíle v prostoru, včetně technologie MIMO. Klíčovým prvkem práce je aplikace širokopásmového OFDM pulsního signálu. Jsou analyzovány principy odhadu radiální vzdálenosti a rychlosti cíle. Diskutovány jsou dopady Dopplerova posuvu vlivem pohybu cíle vůči radaru a koherence vysílací a přijímací části radarového senzoru na využití parametrů senzoru. V závěrečné části jsou analyzovány a porovnány výsledky reálného měření, kde byl použit běžný pulsní signál a OFDM signál.

Abstract:

The work deals with the issue of signal processing in radar systems using broadband pulse signals. The basic principles of the pulse primary radar are briefly presented. This type of radar is used for comparison with the type of broadband OFDM radar proposed here. The work also contains a theoretical analysis of methods for determining the direction of signal arrival using spectral decomposition and digital beamforming. This is used to refine the localization of the target in space. The key element of the work is the application of a broadband OFDM pulse signal. Different principles of radial distance and target velocity estimation are analyzed. The effects of the Doppler shift due to the movement of the target relative to the radar and the coherence of the transmitting and receiving part of the radar sensor on the sensor parameters are discussed in detail. In the final part, the results of a real measurement, where a common pulse signal and an OFDM signal were used, are analyzed and compared.
