Industrial heritage and tourism in Wales: trajectory, mechanisms and problems

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je zmapovat, v jakém rozsahu a kterými mechanismy dokázal Wales při transformaci z tradičního průmyslu k novým ekonomikám využít průmyslového dědictví pro rozvoj různých forem cestovního ruchu, který představuje jeden z dynamických sektorů místní ekonomiky. V teoretické části se práce zaměřuje na klíčové pojmy industrializace, deindustrializace, průmyslové dědictví a problematiku starých průmyslových regionů s důrazem na evropské podmínky. Práce je založena na rešerši převážně zahraniční odborné literatury a oficiálních statistik Walesu. Výsledkem je typologie průmyslového a těžebního dědictví z pohledu jeho využití (forem, funkcí a významu) v cestovním ruchu. V diskusi jsou identifkovány klíčové problémy, kterým Wales čelil při využití průmyslového a těžebního dědictví pro rozvoj cestovního ruchu a dále možnosti využití některý konceptů v regionu Ústeckého kraje.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to map the extent and mechanisms by which Wales has been able to use industrial heritage to develop different forms of tourism, which is one of the dynamic sectors of the local economy, in the transition from traditional industry to new economies. In the theoretical part, the work focuses on key concepts of industrialisation, deindustrialisation, industrial heritage and the issue of the old industrial regions with an emphasis on European conditions. The work is based on a search of mostly foreign literature and official Wales statistics. The result is a typology of industrial and mining heritage in terms of its use (forms, functions and importance) in tourism. The discussion identifies the key challenges Wales has faced in exploiting its industrial and mining heritage for tourism development, as well as the possibility of using some concepts in the Usti Region.
