Abstract:

Disertační práce "Aristeia promachón: rozdílné pojetí aristei u hippeis a hoplítai" se zaměřuje na vojenské hodnoty nejlepších řeckých válečníků, jejich hrdinské skutky na bojišti, a na kulturně filosofické ideály, které se zmíněnou hodnotou aristeia úzce souvisely. Toto vše v kontextu chápání antického Řecka jako kultury příslušné historicko-kulturní formy. Ideály, o nichž práce pojednává, měly zásadní důležitost v řeckých dějinách a společnosti. Středobodem je zde pro nás aristeia, řecký termín pro neobvykle statečné chování v bitvě, hodnotu válečníka, vzácný důkaz odvahy. Z tohoto ideály vycházely a na něj se napojovaly i další typy a hodnoty jako aristeion (hrdinství, odměna za prokázané hrdinství), timé (čest), sláva (kleos), areté (zdatnost, dokonalost, dobrost), kalokagathia (harmonie duše a těla), andreia a andragathia (termíny pro statečnost). Aristeia ukazovala hodnotu muže a hodnotu a úroveň dalších zmíněných typů řecké kultury. Disertační práce sleduje vývoj aristeia v horizontální i vertikální rovině a dále zejména rozdíl v pojímání této hodnoty hippeis, jezdecnou aristokracií (mykénsko-homérskou), a hoplítai (řeckými těžkooděnci vytvořenými po hoplítské revoluci). Práce zkoumá důležitost řeckého hodnotového systému, který měl zásadní vliv na Řeky a jejich význam pro následující dějinné epochy.

Abstract:

The aim of the dissertation Aristeia promachón: different conception of aristeia at hippeis and hoplitai focuses on the military value of the best warriors, their heroic deeds on the battlefield, and military-cultural ideals, especially the ideal of aristeia – a philosophical ideal related to warfare and sport (above all the physical preparation) – in the context of understanding ancient Greece as the high point of a particular historical-cultural form. This dissertation deals with the ancient Greek system of ideals and ethical, military and sports values, which created ancient Greek society and played a greatly important role in Greek history. Our main idea is aristeia. In ordinary life, aristeia was a Greek term for unusually valiant behaviour in battle, heroism, valour, derring-do, and rare proof of courage. From this ideal, other ideals were derived, especially aristeion (heroism) and also honour, reward, and victorious prize for the greatest valour in battle). This ideal showed the value of a warrior and his andreia (bravery), the value of a man (citizen) and his timé (honour). Also, aristeia reflected areté, kalokagathia, etc. and it has made many differences – distinctions between hippeis and hoplítes, but also between a brave man, an ordinary man or a coward. This investigation into ancient culture and society examines the importance of the Greek value system, without which the Greeks would not have achieved their world significance.
