Comparation of the British and French Colonial Systems

Abstract:

Evropské koloniální systémy v praxi potvrdily evropskou nadvládu nad světem. Již od 15. století tak Evropané započali svou vládu nad jinými kouty světa. S postupem času tak sílila evropská hegemonie ve světě. Nejdříve byl klíčový obchod, ale posléze se začaly prosazovat i jiné zájmy až došlo v jistých případech k zotročení domorodců. Různé evropské národy se předbíhaly v získávání nových území. Britská a francouzská koloniální politika pak dokázala, že na počátku 20. století tyto země ovládaly polovinu světa. Tehdejší hegemonie zcela změnila svět do dnešních dob. Má práce však nesleduje jen historický vývoj koloniálních panství, ale srovnává odlišnosti britské a francouzské koloniální soustavy a to především z hlediska správy kolonizovaného území, samostatnosti pro tamní obyvatelstvo a následků jaké tato panství přinesla.

Abstract:

The European colonial powers proved their world dominance practically. Since the 15th century, Europeans had started to reign over the world and established and reinforced their hegemony. Alongside trade, being the first main motivation, other motivations also arised, leading to aboriginal slavery in some cases. European nations were competing in acquiring new territories. The British and the French empires were able to govern half the world in the beginning of the 20th century. The hegemony at that time has formed the modern world. My thesis describes the historical evolution of colonial powers and also compares differences between the British and the French ones, mainly viewed in topics of the colonial territory administration, the autonomy for aborigines and impacts these powers have brought.
