Household approaches to rainwater management in suburbs of the Plzeň region

Abstract:

V roce 2007 nabyla v České republice účinnost vyhláška, upravující podmínky pro hospodaření s dešťovými vodami (HDV). Její prioritou je zabývat se srážkami přímo v místě jejich dopadu na povrch, a to včetně soukromých pozemků, a snížit tím negativní dopady nárůstu urbanizovaných ploch a klimatické změny na hydrologický cyklus. Cílem této diplomové práce je na příkladu vybraných suburbií v zázemí města Plzně ukázat, jak se liší postoje a motivace k hospodaření s dešťovou vodou u majitelů nemovitostí, zkolaudovaných před a po přijetí této vyhlášky. První část práce bude věnována obecnému seznámení s problematikou HDV. Empirická část bude založena na vlastním výzkumu ve vybraných suburbiích. Modelové lokality budou zvoleny na základě jejich prostorového kontextu a období výstavby. Pro vybraná suburbia bude na základě leteckých snímků zpracována analýza typů povrchů v prostředí GIS a dále provedeno šetření formou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů zaměřených na zjištění postojů a motivací respondentů k hospodaření se srážkovými vodami.

Abstract:

In 2007 the Czech Republic adopted a decree regulating conditions for stormwater management (SWM). In compliance with the decree, the priority is to deal with rainfall in the place where it falls onto the ground, including private land. Thus, the negative impacts of urban expansion and climate change on hydrologic cycle shall be decreased. This diploma thesis aims to investigate changes in attitudes and motivation to stormwater management in property owners whose houses passed the final inspection before and after the adoption of the decree. Specific suburbs of the city of Plzeň will be chosen to demonstrate the changes. The first part of the thesis will introduce general issues related to SWM. The empirical part will be based on individual research in chosen suburbs. The model locations shall be chosen with respect to their spatial context and time of construction. Using aerial photographs, surface types occurring in the suburbs will be analysed using GIS software. Apart from that, a survey based on semi-structured interviews will be conducted. The survey aims to find out about the respondents' attitudes and motivation to stormwater management.
