Economy of the Statutory city of Ostrava and Košice

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na porovnání hospodaření dvou statutárních měst, Ostravy v České republice a Košic na Slovensku, v období let 2018 až 2022. Teoretická část poskytuje úvod do fungování statutárních měst a procesu sestavování rozpočtu, zdůrazňuje význam tohoto procesu jak pro veřejnou správu, tak pro politické rozhodování. Praktická část analyzuje ekonomické výsledky obou měst v kontextu bezproblémových let a let ovlivněných pandemií Covid-19 a konfliktem na Ukrajině. Závěrečná část shrnuje a porovnává získané informace z rozpočtů obou měst, zejména se zaměřením na hlavní rozdíly v příjmech, výdajích a oblastech investic. Tato práce přináší cenné poznatky o hospodaření a rozvoji městských oblastí v České republice a na Slovensku.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the comparison of the economy of two statutory cities, Ostrava in the Czech Republic and Košice in Slovakia, in the period from 2018 to 2022. The theoretical part provides an introduction to the functioning of statutory cities and the budgeting process, emphasizing the importance of this process both for public administration and for political decision-making. The practical part analyzes the economic results of both cities in the context of problem-free years and years affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the conflict in Ukraine. The final part summarizes and compares the information obtained from the budgets of both cities, especially focusing on the main differences in income, expenditure and areas of investment. This bacholar thesis provides valuable insights into the management and development of urban areas in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
