Motivations of the Czech Facebook users for using the "like" button

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se snaží získat hlubší pochopení motivů pro užití tlačítka „like“ u statusů fyzických osob na Facebooku a toho, jak se jednotlivé roviny těchto motivů promítají do jednání jeho uživatelů. Činí tak za pomoci replikace studie publikované výzkumníky Chin, Lu a Wu z Thajwanské univerzity. S několika nutnými úpravami, ke kterým bylo nutné přikročit z důvodu nízké explicitnosti původní výzkumné zprávy i limitů výchozího výzkumu jako takového, využívá autorka tento výzkum jako teoretické a metodologické východisko. Za pomoci mnohonásobné regresní analýzy dochází k závěru, že nejčastěji na záměr uživatelů kliknout na tlačítko „like“ působí to, že jim status připadá vtipný nebo zábavný, přináší nějaké užitečné nebo zajímavé informace anebo je publikován osobami, které uživateli připadají vlivné nebo mají vysokou názorovou kredibilitu. Záměr kliknout na tlačítko „like“ naopak neovlivňuje popularita příspěvku nebo skutečnost, že by uživatel chtěl lajkováním podpořit svůj vztah s autorem statusu.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis tries to gain a deeper understanding of motives for clicking the „like“ button on statuses of individuals on Facebook and how individual levels of this motives are reflected in behavior of its users. This is done by replication of study, which was published by researchers Chin, Lu and Wu from University of Taiwan. Author of this thesis has used this study as methodological and theoretical basis with some necessary adjustments, which had been made because of low explicitness of the original research report and limits of it as such. With help of multiply linear regression the author concludes that the biggest influence on clicking the „like“ button has the feeling, that status is funny and enjoyable, the users can get from it some useful or interesting information or it’s published by people who are influential or have high opinion credibility. On the other hand, the intention for clicking the „like“ button isn’t affected by popularity of status or user’s gain to promote his friendship with author of the post.
