Words without Boundaries - Slam Poetry in the American and the Czech Context

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá jednou ze současných uměleckých podob prezentace autorské poezie – Slam poetry – v českém a americkém kontextu. Slam poetry je soutěž v autorském přednesu poezie a vznikla v osmdesátých letech dvacátého století v americkém Chicagu, odtud se rozšířila prakticky do celého světa. Svou originální podobu nalezla také v České republice. Práce je rozdělena do pěti hlavních kapitol. První kapitola pojednává o počátcích Slam poetry v USA. Druhá kapitola představuje situaci vzniku Slam poetry v České republice. Autorka se zde zabývá taktéž nejvýraznějšími osobnostmi české slamové scény a prostor vymezuje taktéž souvisejícím akcím a projektům. Třetí kapitola je věnována konkrétní podobě soutěže Slam poetry a jejím pravidlům. Ve čtvrté a zásadní kapitole se autorka pokusila najít východiska pro definici Slam poetry jako žánru a zohlednila v tomto směru vybrané klíčové aspekty. Neméně zásadní je závěrečná pátá kapitola, ve které si autorka kladla za cíl shrnutí přínosu Slam poetry v širších kulturních a společenských souvislostech. Autorčiným hlavním cílem je touto prací přispět k rozšíření povědomí a informovanosti o tomto fenoménu a vyzdvihnout význam Slam poetry jako svébytné umělecké disciplíny, která má nesporný význam pro prezentaci poezie a při které dochází k ojedinělé interakci mezi umělcem a divákem.

Abstract:

This bachelor theses is concerned with one of the contemporary art forms, the presentation of an author’s poetry, Slam poetry in the American and the Czech context. Originating in Chicago in the1980’s, Slam poetry is a competition at which poets read or recite their original work. It has spread virtually worldwide and has found an original style in the Czech republic also. The thesis is divided into five main chapters. The first chapter deals with the beginnings of Slam poetry in the U.S.A. The second chapter looks at the beginnings of Slam poetry in the Czech republic. The author is also considerning the outsanding personalities of the Czech Slam Poetry scene and introducing the reader to some related Slam events and projects. The third chapter i a set aside for an explanation of the specific form of the Slam poetry competition a nd its rules. In the forth and fundamental chapter the author tries to find a conclusion for a defination of Slam poetry as a genre with reference to the chosen aspects. No less crucial is the fifth chapter. Here the author sets herself the task of summarizing the contibution of Slam poetry in the wider cultural and social context. The author aims trough this work, at lest partially, to help spread the awarenes of this phenomen and raise the meaning of Slam poetry to an original art discipline. A discipline, which has an indisputable meaning, as e presentation of poetry in which is created a unique interaction between the artist and his audience.
