Urban Waterfront Redevelopment - principles and selected examples of good practice.

Abstract:

Předmětem bakalářské práce je představení tématu urban waterfront redevelopment a zhodnocení případových studí, jako úspěšně realizovaných příkladů z praxe. Teoretická část je zaměřena na vymezení pojmu urban waterfron redevelopment, spolu s jeho charakteristikami a principy. V dalších kapitolách se práce zabývá důvody revitalizace v městském prostoru a také je okrajově přiblížena revitalizace přístavních měst. V praktické části je práce zaměřena na konkrétní praktické příklady a případové studie ve městě Pittsburghu a ve městě Ostravě. Na jednotlivých případech, které jsou v práci prezentovány, je znázorněna přeměna znehodnocených a nevyužívaných oblastí v atraktivní území s kvalitativně novou funkcí. V závěru práce, na základě zjištěných informací jsou zhodnoceny a porovnávány realizované projekty a také přístupy k revitalizaci ve vybraných městech. Cílem této práce bylo zároveň shromáždění poznatků, které by mohly sloužit institucím, které se touto problematikou zabývají, stejně tak municipalitám jako inspirace pro jejich rozvojové záměry.

Abstract:

The subject of this bachelor thesis consists in the introduction of the topic of urban waterfront redevelopment and evaluation of case studies as the examples having been successfully implemented in practice. The theoretical part focuses on the definition of urban waterfront redevelopment, along with its characteristics and principles. In subsequent chapters, the work deals with the reasons for the revitalization of urban areas the revitalization of areas in the port cities is also marginally referred to there. The practical part of the work is focused on particular examples and case studies in Pittsburgh and in Ostrava. In individual cases being presented therein, the conversion of degraded and abandoned areas into attractive areas with a qualitatively new features and function is shown there. In conclusion, on the basis of the information found, implemented projects and approaches to revitalization in selected cities are evaluated and compared. The aim of this work was also to gather information that could serve institutions dealing with the respective points at issue as well as municipalities as inspiration for their development plans.
