Women's returns to the labor market after maternity and parental leave

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje ženám na mateřské/rodičovské dovolené, které byly v době šetření v pracovní neaktivitě a následně svůj ekonomický stav změnily či setrvaly mimo trh práce. Východiskem práce je výjimečně dlouhá rodičovská dovolená, která ovlivňuje možnosti návratu žen na trh práce, jelikož se během ní objem lidského kapitálu, identifikovaného jako klíčový faktor uskutečnění tranzice, nezvyšuje, ale spíše dochází k jeho poklesu. V práci jsou nastíněny souvislosti mateřské a rodičovské dovolené, včetně situace na trhu práce a faktorů, které návrat na trh práce mohou ovlivňovat. V práci dochází díky datům z šesti vln (2005–2010) šetření European Union – Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) – modul pro Českou republiku k závěrům ohledně trendů a šancí na uskutečnění tranzice na trh práce a následnou zaměstnanost žen po ukončení mateřské/rodičovské dovolené. Využívána je metoda analýzy přežití, dále pak Kaplan-Meierovy odhady a logistická regrese. Jako hlavní faktor ovlivňující návrat žen na trh práce se projevil objem lidského kapitálu především s ohledem na dosažené vzdělání žen, přičemž vysokoškolačky mají v tomto ohledu nejlepší výchozí situaci.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis focuses on women on maternity/parental leave who have not been economically active during the investigation and consequently their economic status was changed or remained out of the labour market. The starting point of this thesis is an exceptionally unusual long maternity/parental leave in the Czech Republic which affects women's opportunities to return to the labour market. The problem is that the extent of human capital, identified as a key factor in the transition, does not increase in the time of no activity, but more likely decrease. The thesis outlines the context of family policies and parental leave including the labour market situation and the factors that can affect the return to the labour market. For the analysis I have used data from European Union - Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) - Module for the Czech Republic survey due to I can identify trends and odds for transition to the labour market and also odds for future employment after the maternity/parental leave terminate. For the analysis I have used the method of survival analysis, the Kaplan-Meier estimates and the logistic regression. As the key factor influencing the return of women to the labour market has been identified the extent of human capital especially in terms of women's education. Especially women with university degree have the best starting position for successful return.
