Cultural Integration in the Eyes of Children

Abstract:

Přestože jsou děti ? stejně jako dospělí jedinci ? aktéry veřejného prostoru, ještě před dvěma desetiletími byly v rámci většiny vědních oborů, včetně sociální geografie, marginalizovány. Integrační strategie, které jsou v evropských státech potýkajících se s velkým množstvím imigrantů, hojně diskutovány, a to ať už na vědecké, či politické půdě, se téměř nevěnují dětem imigrantů, ani dětským migrantům. Přesto zkušenosti mnohých států dokazují, že právě z potomků imigrantů se stává silná sociální skupina, kterou je třeba brát na vědomí nejlépe již v útlém věku, a nikoli až v dospělosti. Analytická část předložené práce zkoumá aplikovatelnost teorií integrace a multikulturalismu na děti imigrantů a dětské migranty navštěvující Integrační školy při Centrech participace a integrace, jež jsou v Madridské autonomní oblasti zaštiťovány místní vládou.

Abstract:

Despite the fact that the children ? as well as the adults ? are the public space agents, 20 years ago they were marginalized in most scientific fields including social geography. Integration strategies which are being thoroughly discussed in both scientific and political environments in European countries dealing with high numbers of immigrants focus very little or not at all on immigrants' children and infant migrants. However, the experience of many states proves that it is the immigrants' children what is becoming a strong social group which is necessary to be taken into account not at the time when the children are grown up but when they are at their early age. The analytical part of this diploma thesis examines whether it is possible to apply the integration and multiculturalism theories on immigrants' children and infant migrants attending the Integration schools at the Participation and Integration Centres which are shielded by the local government in the autonomous Madrid area.
