Romanian Czech, Czech Romanian: Processes of Identification of Compatriots Living in the Village Svatá Helena in Romania

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na nalezení forem identifikací Čechů žijících v rumunské vesnici Svatá Helena. Jako ústřední zdroj pro konceptualizaci pojmu identita jsem zvolila antropologickou perspektivu identity jako sebe-uvědomění samotných aktérů, jež pramení jednak z komplexní zkušenosti kultury, osobní zkušenosti a roviny sociální interakce. Vesničané se mohou vnitřně identifikovat s různými prostory a entitami, jež můžeme definovat jako národ, region, konkrétní lokalita, vesnické společenství. Tyto koncepty však nespatřuji jako objektivně reálné, slouží pouze pro vytvoření analytického schématu možných entit, s nimiž se lze identifikovat. Práce se pokouší odpovědět na otázku, jak jsou tyto prostory či entity vnímány účastníky rozhovorů prostřednictvím konstrukce významů, jež jim přikládají. Proces konceptualizace prostorů z emické perspektivy probíhá na symbolické úrovni. Odpověď na otázku, jak jsou tyto prostory symbolicky konstruovány, nám mohou dát prostřednictvím metody rozhovorů samotní aktéři konstruující hranice těchto prostorů, které mohou mít symbolický, kulturní i fyzický charakter. Rozhovory prováděné s participanty mají spíše informační charakter a slouží jako pilotáž pro budoucí intenzivní výzkum v dané oblasti. Závěry práce si nekladou nároky na zevšeobecnění, slouží pouze pro ilustraci procesů, jakým způsobem a na jaké úrovni probíhají vnitřní identifikace aktérů s konkrétními entitami.

Abstract:

This work focuses on finding the forms of identification of Czech people in one Romanian village named Svatá Helena. As a central source for the conceptualization of the notion of identity I have chosen an anthropological perspective of identity as a self-perception of actors, which main source stems from the complex experience of culture and its commonly shared symbols. Villagers can internally identify themselves with various spaces and entities that can be defined as nation, region, concrete locality, rural community. However, they do not see these concepts as objectively real but only serve for the establishment of an analytical scheme of possible entities eventually to be identified with. The work attempts at answering the question of how those spaces or entities are perceived by the participants of an interview through a construction of meanings attached to them. The process of conceptualization of spaces from the emic perspective works on a symbolic level. The question of how these spaces are symbolically being constructed can be answered by the actors themselves by using the method of interview, whereas these actors construct boundaries of the spaces that can have symbolic, cultural as well as physical character. Interviews that have been made with the participants are more of an informational character and serve as a pilot study for an intensive future research of the given field. Conclusions of this work do not claim for an objectification but only illustrate the processes of how and on which level the inner identifications of the actors with concrete entities happen.
