Strategic Culture and Jus Ad Bellum Principles: the Case of the Arab Coalition Intervention in Yemen

The thesis will be investigating the legality of the Arab Coalition’s intervention in Yemen. Using different frameworks available for the legality of the intervention based on Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, and the concept of Intervention by Invitation, the thesis will examine which of the two frameworks the intervention adhered to. Aside from this, the thesis will also investigate the role of strategic culture in the Coalition’s decision to intervene in Yemen. The thesis concludes that Intervention by Invitation is the framework which the Coalition legally adhered to, and that the strategic culture of the Coalition’s leader, Saudi Arabia, significantly shaped their decision to intervene.

Abstract:
