The theoretical part of this work discusses the characteristics and importance of extremely acidophilic microorganisms, the main representative of which is Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. In particular, the work focuses on the aerobic and anaerobic metabolisms inluding cytochromes which represent the most important parts of the respiratory chains of this bacterium. Teoretická část této práce je zaměřena na charakteristiku a význam extrémně acidofilních mikroorganismů, jejichž hlavním zástupcem je bakterie Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. Dále se teoretická část zabývá aerobním a anaerobním metabolismem se zaměřením na cytochromy, které jsou důležitou součástí respiračního řetězce u této bakterie.
