Iron ions sorption on the bentonites

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na studium adsorpce železitých a železnatých iontů z vodného prostředí. Jako sorbent byl použit přírodní a kysele aktivovaný bentonit. Nejdříve byla zjišťována časová závislost adsorpce. Bylo zjištěno, že rovnováha se ustaluje u přírodního bentonitu už po 2 hodinách pro oba kationty, avšak u kysele aktivovaného bentonitu je ustálení rovnováhy mnohem komplikovanější (ke změnám adsorbovaného množství dochází i po 24 hodinách). Dále byly naměřeny adsorpční izotermy bez úpravy hodnoty pH a s upravenou hodnotou pH na 2. Naměřená data byla porovnána vůči modelům Langmuirovy a Freundlichovy izotermy. Ve většině případů odpovídala naměřená data průběhu Langmuirovy izotermy. Přírodní bentonit vykazoval vyšší maximální adsorbovaná množství než aktivovaný bentonit pro oba kationty. Vyššího maximálního adsorbovaného množství bylo dosaženo u obou materiálů pro železité ionty. Adsorbovaná množství obou kationtů na oba materiály klesají s klesající hodnotou pH.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis is focusedon thestudy of adsorption offerricandferrous ionsfrom an aqueous solution. Two types of bentonite, natural and acid-activated, were used as sorbents. First the dependence of adsorption at time was determined. It was found that equilibrium was reached after 2 hours in the case of natural bentonite but attainment of equilibrium by acid-activated bentonite was more complicated (there were observed changes in the adsorbed amount also after 24 hours). Further the adsorption isotherms were measuredwithout pH value adjustment and also with the adjustment of pH value to 2.Measured data were compared with theoretical models of Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm. Data corresponded to Langmuir model in the most cases. Natural bentonite exhibited higher maximal adsorbed amounts than acid activated bentonite for both cations. Higher maximal adsorbed amounts were reached for Fe(III) ions for both studied materials.Adsorbed amounts for both ions and both materials decreased with decreasing pH value of the solution.
