Incentive effect of intermediate result: Robustness check of sport matches evidence

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis "Incentive effect of intermediate result: Robustness check of sport matches evidence" focuses on the incentive effect of the loss during the match. Using dataset coming from five basketball leagues we are investigating the robustness of the results of the study by Berger and Pop (2011), who claim that loosing in half-time break may lead to winning. In the context of the incentive effect, we discuss the difference between male and female basketball, and then we take into account the role of the favorite.

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca "Motivačný efekt priebežného výsledku: Robustnosť evidencie zo športových zápasov" sa zameriava na motivačný efekt prehry v priebehu zápasu. Na dátach z piatich basketbalových líg je overovaná robustnosť výsledkov štúdie Bergera a Popa (2011), ktorá tvrdí, že prehrávanie v polčase môže viesť k výhre. V súvislosti s motivačným efektom v práci rozoberáme rozdielnosť medzi mužským a ženským basketbalom, pričom taktiež zohľadňujeme rolu favorita.
