The Wooden Pietás from the First Half of the 15th Century in Bohemia

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá celkem dvaceti dochovanými dřevěnými sousošími s tématem piety na území dnešních Čech. V centru otázek jež si klade, je nutnost přezkoumání našeho náhledu na tato díla po přesunu datace ústřední skupiny řezeb, spojované s tzv. Mistrem Týnské kalvárie do třicátých a čtyřicátých let patnáctého století, provedené Milenou Bartlovou. V této souvislosti je měněn pohled na celou vrstvu sochařských děl pozdního krásného slohu i jejich dataci.

Abstract:

This essay deals with a group of twenty surviving wooden carvings in the form of Pietà from the area of today’s Bohemia. The crucial point standing in the centre of the questions it tries to ask is seen in the necessity to review our point of view of these works after Milena Bartlová’s shift of the dating of the central group of carvings connected with the so called Master of Týn Calvary to the 1430s and 1440s of the 15th Century. With regard to this, the view of a whole layer of sculptural works of the late beaux style (beautiful style) and their dating is reconsidered.
