The UN’s Role in Regulating Transnational Corporations with Regard to Human Rights

Abstract:

S narůstajícím vlivem transnacionálních korporací (TNCs) rostla i potřeba tyto aktéry mezinárodních vztahů regulovat zejména v oblasti lidských práv, která jsou TNCs často porušována. Mezi mezinárodními organizacemi zabývajícími se regulací TNCs patřila i OSN, jejíž snaha stále pokračuje i dnes. Cílem této bakalářské práce je proto zjištění, jakými nástroji OSN reguluje TNCs v oblasti lidských práv. První část této práce se zaměří na pojem TNCs a stručný popis jejich současných regulací v oblasti lidských práv. Dále se práce věnuje snahám OSN o regulaci TNCs v oblasti lidských práv, tedy její iniciativě UN Global Compact a pokusům o regulaci TNCs spadající pod Radu pro lidská práva.

Abstract:

With a growing influence of transnational corporations (TNCs) came a need to regulate these international relations’ actors with regard to human rights, which TNCs often violate. The UN was one of the international organisations that focused on regulating TNCs and the UN’s efforts to do so still continue today. The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to find out which instruments the UN uses to regulate TNCs regarding human rights. The first part of this work focuses on the concept of TNCs, and a brief description of their regulations concerning human rights. The next part of this work focuses on the UN’s efforts to regulate TNCs with regard to human rights, its initiative UN Global Compact, and its efforts to regulate TNCs made under the UNHRC.
