Family Effects in Prenatal Development: A Dermatoglyphic Study

Abstract:

This thesis was created in order to contribute with new findings to the topic of prenatal factors of dermatoglyphics. The diploma thesis examines the influence of three selected family effects on the formation of dermatoglyphs of fingers and palms, on a sample of 163 women and 122 men originating from the Skalica District (Slovakia). The place of birth of the parents was the first studied factor. It had a significant effect on the frequency of finger patterns in both men and women. It also had a significant effect on the RCu value of women on the second finger. The sex of a previous sibling was the most influential of the three analysed factors. The existence of an older sibling had a significant effect on the frequency of finger patterns in men, on the frequency of hypothenar patterns in women, the presence of palm triadius t and t1 in men on the left palm, the abRC value of men on the left palm and the bcRC value in both right and left palm of women. The third investigated factor was the geographical distance of the parents. It had a significant effect on the frequency of finger patterns in both men and women, on the RCu value of men on the fifth finger, the RCr value of women on the fourth finger and the frequency of patterns on men's hypothenar region. The dermatoglyphics of the fingers and palms are sensitive in different ways to the external factors that affect developing fetus. The results showed that the studied family factors have significant effects on the process of formation of the human dermatoglyphics.

Abstract:

Táto diplomová práca vznikla s cieľom prispieť novými výsledkami k problematike prenatálnych vplyvov na dermatoglyfické znaky. Diplomová práca skúma vplyv troch vybraných rodinných efektov pri vzniku dermatoglyfov prstov a dlaní, a to na vzorke 163 žien a 122 mužov pôvodom zo Skalického okresu (Slovensko). Miesto narodenia rodičov bolo prvým vybraným faktorom, ktorý mal preukázaný významný vplyv na frekvenciu vzorov na prstoch u mužov aj u žien. Významný vplyv mal aj na hodnotu RCu žien na druhom prste. Pohlavie predchádzajúceho súrodenca bol najvplyvnejším z troch faktorov. Existencia staršieho súrodenca mala významný vplyv na frekvenciu vzorov na prstoch u mužov, na frekvenciu vzorov na hypothenare u žien, na prítomnosť dlaňových trirádií t a t1 mužov na ľavej dlani, na hodnotu abRC mužov na ľavej dlani a na hodnotu bcRC u žien na pravej aj ľavej dlani. Tretím skúmaným faktorom bola geografická vzdialenosť pôvodu rodičov. Tento faktor mal významný vplyv na frekvenciu vzorov na prstoch u mužov aj u žien, na hodnotu RCu mužov na piatom prste, hodnotu RCr žien na štvrtom prste a frekvenciu vzorov na hypothenare mužov. Dermatoglyfy prstov a dlaní sú pri procese svojho vzniku a formovania v rôznej miere citlivé na externé faktory, ktoré pôsobia na vyvíjajúci sa plod. Výsledky ukázali, že na proces tvorby dermatoglyfov významne pôsobia a majú efekt aj sledované rodinné faktory.
