Brian Eno: Interactive music applications as a creative tool for ambient music

Abstract:

Předmětem magisterské diplomové práce je monografická studie o hudebním teoretikovi, skladateli a producentovi, Brianu Enovi. Sleduje jej jako hudebního experimentátora, zvukového mága, význačného představitele ambientní hudby a zejména jako průkopníka nových technologií v oblasti hudební tvorby. Stěžejní část práce se zaměří na analýzu a popis jeho interaktivních mobilních aplikací – Bloom, Scape, Trope, Someday’s World a dalších, jako nových nástrojů vytváření ambientní hudby, dostupných běžnému uživateli. Tyto aplikace vytvářejí volný prostor pro ambientní tvorbu a představují základní technologické nástroje pro vznik multimediálního díla. Cílem je zachytit a popsat vznik a vývoj nových a dosud nepoužitých přístupů Briana Ena a jeho spolupráci s dalšími vývojáři na vývoji interaktivních hudebních aplikací produkující hudbu, která „myslí sama za sebe.“

Abstract:

The subject of the present Master’s thesis is a monographic study on Brian Eno, a music theorist, composer and producer. The thesis depicts him as a musical experimenter, an audio wizard, a distinguished representative of ambient music, and especially, as a pioneer of new technologies in the field of music creation. The core part of the thesis focuses on an analysis and description of his interactive mobile applications—Bloom, Scape, Trope, Someday’s World and others—as a new form of ambient music available to common users. These software applications serve as free space for ambient creation and represent a basic technological tool for the creation of a multimedia work. The thesis aims to capture and describe the emergence and development of Brian Eno’s new and first-ever used procedures and his cooperation with other developers on the development of interactive music applications producing music which “thinks for itself.”
