Supporting the health and health-threatening behaviors in the context of social support in late adolescence

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce je dílčí součástí grantového výzkumného projektu: "Chování zdraví podporující a zdraví ohrožující: determinanty, modely a konsekvence" (č. 13-19808S). Jsou v ní shrnuty poznatky českých i zahraničních výzkumů a literatury o pozdní adolescenci, zdraví, chování ke zdraví a sociální opoře. Na jejich základě předpokládáme vztah mezi úrovní vnímané sociální opory a chováním ke zdraví u dospívajících. Cílem této výzkumné studie je zmapovat tento vztah, zaměřit se na vybrané aspekty chování ke zdraví u pozdní adolescence a zjistit, zda existují genderové rozdíly v úrovni sociální opory dospívajících. Byl použit kvantitativní výzkumný design založený na jednorázovém dotazníkovém šetření. Chování ke zdraví jsme zjišťovali Škálou chování souvisejícího se zdravím a úroveň sociální opory Škálou blízkých vztahů a sociální opory. Výsledky prokázaly, že komponenty pozitivní smýšlení a předcházení nemoci statisticky významně souvisí s úrovní sociální opory. Očekávané genderové rozdíly mezi dospívajícími v chování ke zdraví také vyšly statisticky významně. Naopak genderové rozdíly mezi adolescenty v úrovni sociální opory se nám nepodařilo prokázat. Výsledky poukazují na důležitost budoucího výzkumu v oblasti sociální opory a jejich komponentů.

Abstract:

Presented thesis is a partial part of the research: „The behavior of health-promoting and health-threatening: Determinants, Models, and Implications“, under grand (no. 13-19808S). Czech and foreign studies and literature about late adolescence, health, health behaviors and social support are summarized in this thesis. Based on them we assume relationship between levels of perceived social support and health behaviors. The aim of this thesis is explore this relationship, focus on selected aspects of health behaviors in late adolescence and discover possible existence of gender differences in levels of social support among adolescents. Quantitative design based on one-time questionnaire was used. We investigated health behaviors through The scale of behaviors related to health, and the levels of social support through The scale of close relationships and social support. Results proved that components positive thinking and prevention of illness were significantly related with levels of social support. Anticipated gender differences between adolescents in health behaviors also proved as statistically significant. On the contrary we couldn’t prove gender differences between adolescents in levels of social support. Results pointed out the importance of future research in social support area and its components.
