Images of Brazilian Cannibalism in 16th-Century European Literature
Abstract:
Abstract This thesis focuses on the phenomenon of cannibalism and its depiction in European 16th-century travel books. The first part introduces this social taboo and presents its various sociocultural motivations. Táto práca sa zameriava na fenomén kanibalizmu a jeho zobrazenie v európskych cestopisoch zo 16. storočia. Prvá časť práce predstaví toto spoločenské tabu a poukáže na jeho rozličné sociokultúrne motivácie. Dôraz bude kladený najmä na Stadenove Dve cesty do Brazílie a Léryho Históriu o plavbe do zeme zvanej Brazília.
