The issue of pertussis in the Moravian-Silesian region

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou pertuse se zaměřením především na Moravskoslezský kraj. Teoretická část je zaměřena na základní informace o pertusi, jako je historie tohoto onemocnění, charakteristika agens, epidemiologie, patogeneze, klinický průběh, možné komplikace. Též je zde popsána diagnostika, terapie a očkování. Dále je zde objasněn princip ,,cocoon? strategie a význam sérologických přehledů. Praktickou částí práce je jednak zpracování údajů o výskytu a trendech pertuse v Moravskoslezském kraji v letech 2001 ? 2013, ale i průzkum laické informovanosti vybraného obyvatelstva o pertusi. Pro tento průzkum byla použita dotazníková metoda, která byla následně vyhodnocena a výsledky byly zaznamenány do grafů a tabulek. Prostřednictvím těchto dotazníků bylo zjištěno, že ačkoli incidence onemocnění černým kašlem v České republice v posledních letech značně stoupá, tak informovanost veřejnosti obzvlášť v otázkách týkajících se očkování je neuspokojivá. Mnoho respondentů nevědělo o pouze krátkodobě trvající imunitě po očkování nebo neznalo způsob léčby a s pojmem ,,cocoon? strategie se nikdy nesetkala převážná většina respondentů. Z důvodu stále se zvyšujícího počtu hlášených případů onemocnění černým kašlem by měl být kladen důraz na zvyšování informovanosti veřejnosti o této problematice a mělo by se dbát na včasnou diagnostiku a léčbu.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of pertussis, with a particular focus on the Moravian-Silesian region. The theoretical part is aimed at the basic information about pertussis such as the history of this illness, its causes, epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical course, or possible complications. It also includes its diagnostics, therapies and vaccination. Furthermore, the principle of the ´cocoon´ strategy is clarified here as well as the explanation of what serological overviews are. The practical part consists of data analysis concerning the occurrence and trends in pertussis in the Moravian-Silesian region between 2001 and 2013. It also involves a survey of certain chosen inhabitants and their lay awareness of pertussis. Questionnaires had been used for this survey. These were further assessed and the results were entered into graphs and charts. Based on the questionnaires, it has been found out that although the incidence of whooping cough in the Czech Republic has been rising in recent years, the lay awareness, especially as far as vaccination is concerned, is unsatisfactory. A lot of respondents did not know about the short-term immunity after vaccination or they did not know the treatment and the term of the ´cocoon´ strategy was unfamiliar to the majority of the respondents. Due to the permanently rising incidence of the reported cases of whooping cough, a special emphasis should be placed on increasing the awareness of the public as for this issue and a timely diagnosis and treatment should be ensured.
