The thesis focuses on the depiction of the detective Pepe Carvalho and his characteristics in the selected works of Manuel Vázquez Montalbán. The principal character shows several distinctive aspects which differentiate him from the detective models of the Anglo-Saxon, francophone and North American literary works, i. e., from the Canon. Práce se zaměřuje na zobrazení detektiva Pepe Carvalho ve španělském literárním prostředí ve vybraných dílech autora Manuel Vázquez Montalbán. Protagonista analyzovaných děl prokazuje distinktivní znaky, které odlišují Pepe Carvalho od detektivních kánonů z anglosaského, frankofonního a severoamerického prostředí.
