"The Gothic Prose" by A. Marlinskii and the Model Starting Point in the Works of A. Radcliffe

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je načrtnout stručný vývoj „gotického“ románu, jeho recepci v Rusku a ukázat, jak se jeho vliv promítl do literatury „zlatého věku“. Důraz je kladen na dílo A. A. Bestuževa-Marlinského a jeho „anglický model“ - tvorbu Anne Radcliffové. Práce se rovněž dotýká „goticky“ laděných děl F. M. Dostojevského a N. V. Gogola, stejně jako tvorby anglických autorů významných z hlediska tohoto žánru, jako jsou H. Walpole, M. G. Lewis, Ch. R. Maturin a další.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is dealing with a brief development of the „gothic“ novel in general, its Russian reception and its impact on literarature of „The Golden Age“. The emphasis is placed on work by Bestuzhev-Marlinskii and his „british model starting point “ by Anne Radcliffe. This thesis is also interesting in „gothic“ work by F. M. Dostoevskii and N. V. Gogol', as well as in authors important for this genre, such as H. Walpole, M. G. Lewis, Ch. R. Maturin etc.
