Children's Literature in Primary English Language Teaching

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou využití dětské literatury v hodinách anglického jazyka na 1. stupni ZŠ. Teoretická část práce zasazuje tuto problematiku do systému českých kurikulárních dokumentů. Dále popisuje didaktické prostředky a metody využitelné při výuce anglického jazyka. Nakonec tato práce vymezuje pojem dětská literatura, její funkce, žánry a důvody jejího využití ve výuce anglického jazyka, společně s pravidly správného výběru využitelných textů a prací s nimi během distančního vzdělávání. Praktická část provedena formou rozhovoru s učiteli a žáky a pozorováním hodin s využitím anglicky psané dětské literatury, měla za úkol zjistit, zda učitelé anglicky psanou dětskou literaturu v hodinách anglického jazyka využívají, jaké texty využívají a za pomoci jakých metod s nimi pracují. Dále zjišťovala, jaké výhody učitelé vidí ve využívání dětské literatury v hodinách anglického jazyka. V neposlední řadě pak praktická část této práce popisuje reakce žáků na prožitou hodinu a na využívání dětské literatury v hodinách anglického jazyka.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the problem of using children´s literature in primary English language teaching. The theoretical part puts this topic into the perspective of Czech curricular documents. It describes the teaching aids and methods used in English language teaching. The theoretical part ends with the description of the term "children´s literature", it describes the use of children´s literature in primary English language teaching, its genres and reasons for its use in English language teaching. It also lists rules for picking the right text and describes the use of children´s literature in distance learning. The research part data was obtained through the observation of English lessons and interviews with pupils and their teachers. The research part states whether teachers use children´s literature in primary English language teaching, what texts they use and what methods they use to work with them. Further it describes the reasons for using children´s literature in English lessons and the pupils´ feedback on these lessons.
