Changes in film lighting methods in relation to the sensitivity of digital cameras

Abstract:

Technologický pokrok dnes rychle posouvá limitace digitálních filmových kamer. Jedním z hlavních směrů vývoje je zvyšování citlivosti senzorů a snaha o dosažení kvalitního filmového obrazu při čím dál nižší hladině osvětlení. Technologie dvojité nativní citlivosti přinesla zásadní změnu a umožnila natáčet na vyšší citlivosti bez negativních efektů jako jsou posun dynamického rozsahu a zvýšená hladina digitálního šumu v obraze.Vývoji kamer a jejich zvýšené citlivosti se přizpůsobuje i způsob osvětlování. Vyšší citlivost kamer umožňuje svítit méně a jinými způsoby. Tato práce si klade za cíl popsat a nastínit další směr vývoje ve filmovém osvětlování v závislosti na vývoji citlivosti digitálních kamer.

Abstract:

Today, technological advances are rapidly pushing the limits of digital film cameras. One of the main directions of development is increasing the sensitivity of sensors and striving to achieve high quality film images at increasingly lower light levels. The technology of dual native sensitivity has brought a fundamental change to the industry and allowed for shooting at higher sensitivities without negative effects such as dynamic range shift and increased digital noise levels in the image.The evolution of the cameras and their increased sensitivity has also affected the way movies are lit. The higher sensitivity of the cameras allows for shooting with less light and using different lighting methods. This thesis aims to describe them and outline the next direction of development in film lighting as digital camera sensitivity evolves.
