Tradition and Modernity: Roger Scruton's Aesthetics of Architecture

Abstract:

Anotace Předkládaná bakalářská diplomová práce se zabývá estetikou architektury Rogera Scrutona především v souvislostech s architekturou modernismu. Cílem je představit Scrutonovu estetiku uceleně a postupně se zaměřovat na její polemiku s formálními, estetickými i ideologickými postupy moderní architektury. Hlavním záměrem práce je přiblížit se této svébytné estetice architektury, která považuje tradici za nezbytný prvek architektonické tvorby a je schopna vytvořit principy uplatnitelné v jakémkoli kulturním kontextu.

Abstract:

Annotation The diploma thesis “Tradition and Modernity: Roger Scruton’s Aesthetics of Architecture“ deals with Scruton’s architectural aesthetics primarily in the context of the architecture of modernism. The aim is to introduce his aesthetics in its complex form and deal specifically with the arguments against formal, aesthetic and ideological practices of modern architecture. Roger Scruton’s aesthetics concurs consistently his attitudes towards art and culture. The main intention of this thesis is to approach this original aesthetics, which puts tradition into the core of architectural creation, and manages to establish aesthetic principles that can be applied to any cultural context.
