Abstract:

Annotation The field of interest of this work is methodology, specifically teaching mixed ability classes and creating materials for such classes. The materials are created for students of one-year intensive course of English for secondary school graduates. The work is divided in two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with methodology. The role of motivation is described as well as the roles of the teacher and individual students in the class. Types of activities and their suitability for teaching in heterogeneous classes are discussed. As respecting students learning styles is one of the ways to satisfy individual students´needs, several views of these styles are presented. The practical part consists of five 90 minute lesson plans for such classes. The lesson plans are based on five days of international importance: International Deaf People´s Day (September 24), World Food Day (October 16), International Day for Tolerance (November 16), World Water Day (March 22), Earth Day (April 22).
