Specific features of the Japanese socio-economic system and their effect on economic development

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá specifiky japonského sociálně-ekonomického systému, jejich vlivem na ekonomiku a případnými proměnami následkem "ztracené dekády". V první části podává přehled specifických rysů japonské ekonomiky, jak jsou uváděny v odborné literatuře, a jejich stručné charakteristiky. Zaměřuje se zejména na celoživotní zaměstnání a princip seniority, které jsou rozebrány ve druhé části. Poslední část práce se věnuje proměnám japonského systému zaměstnávání, na něž má kromě "ztracené dekády" vliv i stárnutí obyvatelstva. V současnosti dochází k ústupu od celoživotního zaměstnání a nárůstu počtu nepravidelných pracovníků; odlišné postavení stálých a nepravidelných zaměstnanců pak vede ke zvyšování příjmové a sociální nerovnosti.

Abstract:

The subject of this thesis are the specific features of the Japanese socio-economic system, their effect on the economy and possible changes resulting from the "Lost Decade". The first part of the thesis offers an overview of the specific features of the Japanese economy and describes their properties. Special attention is given to the lifetime employment and the seniority principle; these are examined in detail in the second part of the thesis. The final part focuses on shifts in the Japanese employment system, which are significantly influenced by both the "Lost Decade" and population ageing. The lifetime employment is in decline and there is an apparent rise in the number of non-regular workers; consequently, the different status of regular and non-regular workers results in growing income and social inequality.
